In Edenhurst Pre-Prep we work closely with each and every child, in order to support them in developing the skills and interests cultivated in the Early Years Foundation Stage. We cover the National Curriculum extensively, and develop each child’s confidence in all areas of learning.
We believe that a passion for reading is one of the most valuable attributes we can foster in a young child. Children in Reception, Form 1 and Form 2 read daily, and parents are invited to share in and encourage their child’s progress by listening to them read at home.
In Form 1 and Form 2, spelling lessons are linked with our handwriting scheme, which encourages a joined script. Mathematics lessons include the learning of tables within a structured system. Spelling and Mathematics learning is reinforced by small homework assignments and weekly tests to monitor and support each child’s progress.
As well as English and Mathematics, pupils in Pre-Prep study Science, Geography, History and Religious Studies. In addition, children benefit from specialist teaching in Music, Art, ICT, French and P.E., which includes Swimming.
Outside of the classroom, children in Pre-Prep are able to enjoy a wide range of Extra-Curricular Clubs including:
- Sports (vary, seasonal)
- Dance
- Music: Little People’s Choir, Ukulele Band
- Drama
- Judo
Educational visits and outings throughout the school year also help to bring the curriculum to life.
Furthermore, our Edventures Holiday Club, which runs during school holidays, offers an action-packed programme specifically created for children aged four to seven, with activities including arts and crafts and a range of sports, as well as performing arts sessions and exciting trips.
